Fixed: Vizio TV Won’t Turn On, Power Light Fades

Diposting pada

Recent Vizio TV models come with a power light that fades after you turn on the TV. This is how your Vizio TV usually works, so there’s nothing to worry about. However, you should be concerned if the TV won’t turn on after the power light goes out.

Often, your Vizio TV starts behaving like this when there is a power failure on the power supply board. Power failures generally occur when the TV is subjected to power surges or voltage fluctuations. Apart from that, it can also indicate a corrupted firmware or a bad display panel on your TV.

Check AC Power

Vizio TVs operate on voltage levels between 110 volts and 240 volts. However, if you use a faulty wall outlet or a voltage control device such as a surge suppressor, your TV may not receive the correct voltage. Thus, your Vizio TV may refuse to turn on.

So you first need to start by plugging the TV’s power cord directly into a working wall outlet. To check if an outlet is working, you can test another device and see if it works properly when plugged into it. If not, the outlet may be faulty and causing the problem.

Remove Connected Devices

I’m sure you have a lot of devices connected to your TV, maybe a game console, a set-top-box, or a storage device like a USB flash drive.

Vizio TVs generally switch the input source itself once the device is connected. In such a case, if any device connected to your TV is damaged, the TV will not turn on. Actually, the TV is on, but you see nothing on the screen.

So, I suggest you disconnect all devices connected to your TV and check if the TV turns on normally again.

Leave the device disconnected before moving on to the further fixes below.

Recharge your Vizio TV

Oftentimes, when your Vizio TV experiences a power surge or fluctuation in voltage levels, it creates a power fault in the power supply circuit, preventing your TV from turning on. You can quickly fix the power failure by performing a power cycle.

Unplug your Vizio TV from the power source and also unplug the power cord from the TV. Press and hold the physical Power button on the TV for one minute. Then release. Plug the power cord back into the power source. Turn on the TV using the same power button. Wait about one more minute and see if the TV turns on.

Check the Display Panel

A TV power cycle often fixes power related problems in your TV. However, if you still can’t turn on the TV, you may have a bad screen panel. Here are the steps to check if the display panel is working.

Turn off all the lights in your room, put up the curtains and darken your room. Turn on your TV power. You can follow the steps discussed above to perform a power cycle. If your display panel is good, your screen will change color to dark gray. Pretty similar to the image below. This will confirm that the display panel is receiving power. If the screen remains off even after turning it on, your TV’s backlight inverter may be faulty. In some cases, it may also indicate a faulty power board or main board. More on this later.

For now, given your good display panel, there are two cases where you see nothing on the screen.

Firstly, you enabled the “Silent Screen” function, and secondly, your TV’s firmware is corrupted. Now let’s see how to fix it.

Disable the Mute Screen Function

Some Vizio TV models have a special “Mute Screen” function that allows you to mute (turn off) the screen while listening to an audio clip on the TV.

You just need to press and hold the Mute button on the TV remote for about 3 to 5 seconds to activate this function or turn it off. When this feature is enabled, you will not get any display after turning on the TV. You can press the Mute button again for 5 seconds to turn it off. See if it returns your view.

You can also try pressing other random keys to check if something appears on the screen.

Factory Reset Vizio TV

Your Vizio TV may not boot normally if the firmware is corrupt. You can try resetting your TV to a factory version to fix this. Since you can’t boot to the TV, you need a special method to reset the TV without turning it on.

Turn on your Vizio TV. Go to your TV’s button panel (usually on the back) and find the button Turn Down Volume and buttons Inputs . Press both buttons at the same time and hold them for a moment. When you do, you’ll see the TV reset screen. Once you see the reset screen, release the buttons Volume Down. But still hold down the button Inputs . you will see”Memory Is Being Erased…on the TV screen after a while. Release the button Inputs Now. Your TV will reset and restart itself after the process is complete.

Contact Vizio Support

If something isn’t working, there may be a severe hardware failure on your Vizio TV.

Oftentimes, the TV refuses to turn on when the power board is faulty. In some cases, a faulty main board, T-Con board or display panel may also be responsible.

Since it can be tricky to troubleshoot a hardware problem yourself, it’s best to contact Vizio support for further assistance or contact your nearest TV repair center.
