What’s better than one popular streaming community coming together? Discord and Twitch are a marriage made in heaven or a Frankenstein kid poised to wreak havoc on the online community. It all depends on your community, right?

If you want to see what problems you and your online audience could be facing, why not get your Discord and Twitch family together? It’s easy to do and results in very satisfying streaming sessions.

Check out how to connect these two popular platforms and bring your entire online community together for one big streaming party.

How to Connect Discord to Twitch on Windows PC or Mac

The Discord app basically works the same way when connected to an existing Twitch account – regardless of whether you’re using a PC or Mac.

If you’re a streamer on Twitch, you’ll need to follow a two-step process to get the integration up and running.

Step 1 – Integrating Your Account

Open Discord and log in to your account.
Select icon User Settings near the bottom of the screen.
Open Connection near the top of the left menu bar, below the header User Settings.
Choose Twitch icon from the row of application integration possibilities in the main panel. Usually the first.

Step 2 – Selecting and Sync Your Server

Go back to your Discord settings but this time you search Server Settings.
Since you have synced your account, you will see options Twitch Integration. Select and sync.

Don’t forget to adjust permission roles as needed. The new settings are in “Server Settings”.

For regulars who want to integrate Discord into Twitch, follow these steps:

Open your Discord app and log in if necessary.
Open Connection through the small icon User Settings near the bottom of the screen.
You’ll see a list of possible apps to integrate into Discord in the main panel. Choose the Twitch icon.
Follow the prompts to log into your Twitch account.
Select the server you want to join from your streaming subscription list.

Remember that you don’t need to link the two accounts, even if you have one. Some communities require them to participate in their chats and events, but this is a completely optional task if you don’t meet any of these requirements.

How to Connect Audio Discord to Twitch

One of the most common issues when connecting a Discord account to a Twitch account is related to audio. Streamers want viewers to hear what’s going on in voice chat, not just games.

If you’re ready to provide your audience with the entertainment they’re accustomed to, there are a few things you must do.

First, you need to integrate your Discord and Twitch accounts. To do this, follow the steps below. If you have connected the two accounts, continue to the next set of steps.

Step 1 – Integration and Sync

Go to menus Discord Settings and choose Connection. Choose the Twitch icon and follow the prompts to log in to your Twitch account. Open Server Settings and select your new Twitch Integration option. Set up a server and sync it to your account.

Step 2 – Set up your Audio Output

There are two ways to get Discord audio into Twitch after integration.

Method 1 – Discord OBS Streamkit

download Discord Streamkit Overlays for OBS Grant permission to access your computer.
Select widgets Voices and configure as needed.
Copy the URL for the sound widget you’ve created.
Open your OBS app and hit the plus button to add sources.
Choose Browsers from the drop-down menu options.
Create a new one and give it a name.
Paste the sound widget URL in the OBS URL text box in the next window.
Press Okay to save changes.

Method 2 – Use a Different Voting App

Sometimes OBS doesn’t get the voice from your voice chat to Twitch. If that happens, you can also try using another app like Banana Voiceover or Elgato Vote Capture.

What you want to do is set OBS to capture audio from Voicemeeter Banana or Elgato’s Sound Capture. From there, OBS can push it into your Twitch stream.

How to Connect Discord Chat to Twitch

If you want a cool overlay of your Discord chats on your Twitch stream, you’ll need to do a few things.

First, if you haven’t integrated the two accounts yet, open your Discord app and follow these steps:

Open User Settings or click the little gear icon near the bottom of the window.
Open Connection and choose the Twitch icon.
Follow the steps to log into your Twitch account (and you’ll need administrator privileges to do so).
Create a new server and sync it on Server Settings.
Select the newly added Twitch Integration option and set up a new server. Sync your servers.

Now that you’re integrated and in sync, it’s time to connect your chats to Twitch. The simplest way to do this is to use Discord’s Streamkit for OBS.

download Discord Overlays OBS kit.Grant permission and access to your Discord.
Select tabs Chat Widgets and configure as needed.
Copy the URL for the widget you just created (located in the text box below the sample image).
Open your OBS application.
Add sources with the push of a button + near the bottom of the window.
Choose Browsers from the drop down menu and create a new one.
Name your new Browser source. Paste the URL widget from Streamkit into the URL text box in the OBS window.
Save changes by pressing the button OK.

If you did this correctly, you will see your Discord chats alongside your Twitch chats in your stream.

Frequently Asked Questions

This section includes answers to more questions about using Twitch and Discord.

What does Twitch and Discord linking do?

When you link the two platforms, you can do a lot more. For example, Discord lets you add moderator roles, starter roles, and more. When you connect the two accounts, you can use the same roles in Discord chats on Twitch.

You can also offer sub-roles to viewers and sub-only servers.

How do I unlink my Twitch and Discord accounts?

If you decide you no longer want to use Twitch and Discord at the same time, you can deauthorize the integration by going back to Connections tab.

Click the icon X next to Twitch and confirm that you want to disconnect from the two platforms.

Unite the Whole Family!

Why limit yourself to Discord or Twitch when you can get the whole family together to stream shenanigans? You can even use features like Discord’s Streamer Mode or Twitch’s Nightbot for a bit of cross-platform promotion.

Just keep in mind that to make this match you need a desktop to do the union ceremony first. So, if you haven’t already, go to your desktop and integrate your Discord and Twitch accounts. You never know what you’re going to find when these two communities come together.
