Copper is one of the most versatile items in Minecraft. Whether you’re building a towering structure or crafting an item, this item is often the main ingredient. However, finding this metal can be tricky, especially if you are a beginner.

No. But worry not, this article will point you in the right direction. Read our step by step guide on how to find and mine Copper in Minecraft.

How to Find Copper in Minecraft

Any discussion about finding Copper in Minecraft is really about finding Copper Ore. Once you’ve mined Ore, you can combine it into Ingots, which serve as building blocks for various projects.

While you can find Copper in many areas throughout your biome, some areas are true Copper hotspots.

Y=47 or 48 Dungeon

Minecraft is a relatively realistic game in terms of where you can find various items. Copper is mined underground in real life, and the same goes for Minecraft Copper Ore.

However, you will have to dig deep to get Copper this way. Y=47 or 48 layers usually contain the highest amount of Copper, so it may be a while before you find these hotspots. Put your Pickaxe to work and start grinding.

If you’re lucky, you can also find Copper at higher elevations. Levels Y=0-16 may also contain this metal. In this case, Copper often replaces the Tuff and Deepslate layers, therefore these heights are also worth investigating.

Dripstone Cave

The developers added the Dripstone biome recently. It is marked by the Cave which bears the same name and features pointed rocks, Deepslate, and Dripstone blocks. Many players venture deep down to funnel different fluids, but you should also check them out if you’re in need of Copper.

Once you’re in the Dripstone cave, take out your Pickaxe and hack anything in your way. Chances are, you’ll mine Copper Ore with relative ease, along with Coal Ore and Iron Ore. Put them all in your backpack as they help you craft all kinds of items and build legendary structures.

Stone Shore Biome

As surprising as it may sound, the Stone Shore biome is known for its high presence of Copper Ore. Much of this area you might associate with stunning beaches, but Copper Ore is just as common.

You can even find veins of Copper Ore in the Rocky Coast biome. Motherload This copper contains quite a bit of metal to carry around, so don’t leave the area until you’ve grinded it down.

If you’re not sure where to find Stone Shores, head to Sea. Look for the mountainous terrain that towers over the Shores. Be careful walking near the edge as it is far away.

How to Improve Your Copper Farm

Traversing the seemingly endless world of Minecraft in your search for Copper can feel like it will take forever. When you finally find a Copper dig site, you want to take your chances by extracting as much of the metal as possible. The only way to do that is to have the right equipment, and your best bet is the Fortune-enhanced Pickaxe.

Luck is an Enchantment applied to your gathering tool that allows you to collect more Ore from each mined block. In this way, it drastically reduces the time it takes to get the target value.

However, how exactly do you upgrade your Pickaxe with this Enchantment? The most common way is to use the Enchantment Table:

Go to your crafting menu and place the Book in the second column of your first row. Go to the second row and place the following elements in this order: one Diamond, one Obsidian Ore and one Diamond. Finally, put three Obsidian Ore in the third row. Use materials to craft your Enchantment Table.
Go to one of the rooms in your house and place a Table in the middle.
Surround a Table with 15 bookshelves that are at least two blocks away from the Table. Any closer than that, your Enchantment may fail.
Get Magic Books by looting chests, fishing, or buying them from the Villager’s Librarian.
Go to your Enchantment Table.
Open the Enchantment window and place your Pickaxe in the top box. If you are lucky, you will be able to upgrade your items with Luck at your first move. If not, you need to buy the Magic Book and try again.

Another way to upgrade your Pickaxe with Luck is to transfer Enchantments from other weapons to the Pickaxe. Keep in mind that Fortune-enhanced items are rare. But if you hit gold and found it, here’s what you have to do to take advantage of its Lucky Charm:

Make sure the weapon is in your inventory.
Go to your Anvil. If you don’t have one, make one by combining three Iron Blocks in the top row, one Iron Ingot in the middle slot of the second row, and three more Iron Ingots in the last row.
Use your Anvil by placing a Pickaxe in the first slot and a Mending Enchanted Book in the second.
