Samsung has expanded compatibility Quick Share App, now allows non-Samsung Windows devices to take advantage of the file sharing feature. The update, Quick Share v1.4.40, was first spotted by SamMobile and marks a significant expansion of the app’s reach.

Samsung Quick Share was first introduced in 2020 for Samsung Galaxy devices, and a Windows version was released in 2021. This app allows Samsung users to transfer photos, videos, and documents between their smartphones, Galaxy Tablets, and Galaxy Book laptops. Recent updates extend this functionality to Windows PCs from other brands, albeit with some limitations.

Compatibility and Limitations

The Quick Share app will only work on non-Samsung Windows PCs equipped with Intel WiFi and Bluetooth cards. The PC must be running at least Windows 10 2004 (or later), Intel Bluetooth Driver v22.50.02, and Intel WiFi Driver v22.50.07, according to the description in Microsoft Store. There is currently no information on whether support for other network cards will be added in the future.

Alternative to Quick Share

For users whose Windows PC does not meet these requirements, an alternative method of wireless file transfer is available. This includes Microsoft’s Phone Link and Google’s Nearby Share. The latter is currently in beta and works with 64-bit versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11, provided the smartphone is running Android 6.0 or later.

Quick Share feature

Similar to Apple’s AirDrop, Samsung Quick Share lets users share pictures and videos without losing quality. The app also works with non-Galaxy smartphones where users can scan a QR code or click on a link to download a file. For sending sensitive data, Quick Share comes with a Private Share option which allows users to send 20 encrypted files up to a total of 200 MB to recipients using a phone number and identification number.

While extending Quick Share to non-Samsung Windows devices is a significant step, network card compatibility limitations may limit its widespread applicability. However, the move reflects Samsung’s commitment to improving cross-platform file sharing, and future updates could further expand app compatibility.
