Meta says it’s working on a new feature for Threads. Some of these new features include view-only posts from people you follow, hashtags, direct messages, edits, and translations. It’s unclear when this and other features will roll out to users.
Threads may have gained a lot of momentum after surpassing a hundred million subscribers in less than a week, but the platform is still in its infancy lacking many features. However, Instagram team has confirmed a number of upcoming features and improvements.
Originally, Meta wasn’t supposed to launch Threads at that point. It all boils down to a window of opportunity due to the chaos that is happening on Twitter. As a result, the company decided to launch Threads with a limited number of features, but company proactively working on many features to improve the platform and address complaints from users.

Here’s a set of features that are expected to roll out to Threads users soon:
View only people you follow to prevent showing posts from people the user doesn’t follow. Hashtags are similar to Twitter. Direct messages. Post sorting with chronological option. Translation submissions. Edit options for posts. Improved recommendations in feeds. Powerful search within Threads. Support for multiple accounts. Full web view because web experience is currently very limited. Ability to delete Threads profile without deleting Instagram. ActivityPub (open social networking protocol) support, which allows Threads to interoperate with other applications that also support the ActivityPub protocol, such as Mastodon and WordPress.
While it may seem like Threads is missing some features, this is because the platform is considered a copy of Twitter, and there have been complaints about users not finding the same experience they are used to on Twitter.
At the time of writing, Meta still does not offer the ability to sign up for Threads in Europe due to logistical and privacy concerns. However, perhaps in the near future, the company will open a platform in the region.
